With labor day around the corner, it is almost time to close up your beautiful pool for the year. While this weekend is often the marker of pool season coming to a close, the lingering Maryland heat wave may leave a little ambiguity in regards to timing. Consider these three critical factors for deciding whether or not to close your pool in upcoming months.
Maryland weather is often unpredictable, with chilly weeks in late March and heat in October. If the temperature in the coming weeks still feels like July, you may be able to get away with leaving your pool open a little later than usual. This warm weather may even allow you to enjoy your pool well into September before the chilly days of early fall set in for the season.
Leaves and Trees Near Your Home
If you live in a home surrounded by trees, leaves may be a threat to your otherwise healthy pool. With warmer temperatures lingering into September, your pool may remain foliage-free for the coming weeks. However, once the leaves begin to change in late September, it may be time to cover your pool and protect it from falling leaves.
For pools with heaters, the water temperature will be able to remain warm and comfortable into early fall. However, for pools without heaters, chilly temperatures may eventually cause damage to your pool if the water gets too cold into October. With this, it is best to close your pool once temperatures get below freezing at night.
