4 Easy Tips for Maintaining Your Hardscape this Fall

Whether you are preparing to host a fall party or preparing to enjoy your autumn landscape, maintaining your hardscape is an integral part of keeping your yard healthy throughout the year.

With September around the corner, there is still plenty of time for entertaining in your beautiful outdoor space as the seasons change. Whether you are preparing to host a fall party or preparing to enjoy your autumn landscape, maintaining your hardscape is an integral part of keeping your yard healthy throughout the year. As you work on your fall landscape for the coming weeks, consider these four easy tips for maintaining your hardscape.

Keep Your Hardscape Free of Debris

Ensure that your hardscape is free of debris by sweeping leaves and dirt from your surface. Particularly in the fall, you may need to sweep more frequently as leaves, and other debris from your yard begins to decompose. While changing leaves are beautiful to admire on trees and in your yard, fallen leaves on your hardscape can lead to mold or even stains. For stubborn stains, rinse your hardscape with your hose to ensure that there is no remaining debris stuck on the stone.

Remove Weeds from Your Hardscape

Another essential step for keeping your hardscape in tact is removing bothersome weeds from cracks between the tiles. With this, it is crucial to remove not only the weed itself but also its roots as well. This step will prevent regrowth of weeds that may otherwise grow to disrupt your hardscape in the spring. For especially hard to reach weeds, you may need to use a smaller tool to ensure that roots are removed from joints.

Inspect Your Hardscape for Issues with Stones and Edges

Scanning your hardscape for any issues with stones and edges is also crucial for preventing the advancement of cracking or displaced stones caused by chilly fall and winter temperatures. If you notice that the joints between your stones seem to be growing, it is best to call the professionals to prevent the stones from pushing out any further and damaging your hardscape design.

Remove Surface Stains

As you prepare your landscape for fall, it is also essential to check your hardscape for any stains on the surface. For minor blemishes on the surface, pressure washing should be enough to remove them effectively. Deep cleaning with a scrubbing brush and small amounts of diluted dish detergent is also an effective way to remove surface stains so that they do not worsen in the colder months ahead.
