How to Choose the Right Paver Color

How to Choose the Right Paver Color

Select the best color for your paver walkway or patio through considering these aspects.

There comes a time in a homeowner’s life when the house needs a new paver walkway or patio installed. It’s time to renovate. Putting down a new hardscape is a long-lasting commitment for the look of the home, and hopefully, that decision is an appealing one. To help you make a better-informed decision, here are a few considerations for how to choose the right paver color.

Existing Color Palette

When looking at various color samples in a store or online, it can be tempting to go with the first one you see or one that you love for its own look. Still, a paver color must fit the context of the home it will be surrounding. If you want to keep the existing color palette of your house, tie the color of the paver into that. Experts suggest matching the color to the roof’s or to choose one a few shades lighter than the roof. Another tip is to select a grey paver color if your house has a brick façade. However, take these tips with a grain of salt. Imagine what your home might look like with those suggestions, and see what you think.

Texture

Also keep in mind that whatever material you use and its texture will impact its color. A more rustic, uneven paver may give off a muted color, while a more polished paver may give off a more modern feel and brighter hue.

Lighting

The paver color will also change depending on the lighting. Natural tones like browns and greys have variations of other colors in them, like pinks, yellows, oranges, and the rest of the rainbow. It is best to test samples in lighting throughout the day and see what colors show and how it looks with the house as a whole.

Temperature

Depending on your location, whether it is very bright and sunny or shaded by tall trees, the color will also affect the heat of the walkway. If your pavers will go around a pool, choosing a lighter color will make the ground more bearable under a bare foot in summer.

Second Opinions

Lastly, it is always helpful to get a handful of second opinions, or at least the advice of a professional. The more sets of fresh eyes on your potential paver, the better the outcome.
