How to Landscape an Awkward Corner

How to Landscape an Awkward Corner
Got a corner to fill in your yard? Michael Bryan Landscapes can help.

Landscaping is a discipline, and some plots of land are easier to work with than others. Awkward corners are not uncommon in suburban backyards, but thankfully, there are plenty of ways to remediate the problem. Below are seven creative ways to landscape an awkward corner.

Tree

Perhaps the simplest way of filling in an awkward backyard corner is with a tree. One can keep it natural with any tree of your choice, although non-invasive ones are preferable. One can also decide on whether this tree should be tall and mighty or simply ornamental.

Water Feature

Water features like a small pond, a fountain, or a waterfall can make any awkward corner into a fresh focal point. Having at least one water feature in your backyard makes it feel more natural, more inviting, and more relaxing.

Sculpture

Trees and water features need maintenance, but a sculpture simply stays in place. Of course, sculptures come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from realistic to abstract. Adding a sculpture is a great way to add texture and color to your landscape.

Sitting Area

If you plan to use this corner, you can landscape it into a permanent sitting area. One could incorporate a sitting wall or wooden bench angled to fit nicely in the space. One could set a fire pit or dining table in the middle, or just keep it open.

Garden Shed

If you are an avid gardener, then installing a garden shed might be the best way to landscape an awkward corner. A garden shed keeps all your gardening tools and supplies out of your home, garage, and property. Bags of dirt and precious seeds can all stay in one secure place. Michael Bryan Landscapes builds custom garden sheds for numerous Marylanders.

Outdoor Fireplace

Want a different way to gather with friends and family? Instead of facing out from the corner of the yard, you can face inward, gazing at a beautiful outdoor fireplace. Surely, these stone or brick features will raise your property value and keep you warm in the meantime.

Grill

If you don’t have a place to grill, the corner of the yard is a possible option. Keep in mind that the grill must be in an open area with no low-hanging branches overhead. If you wonder whether you can place a grill in the corner of your yard, Michael Bryan Landscapes can help!
