March Landscaping Tips

March Landscaping Tips

Begin March on the right foot with these spring landscaping tips!

March brings windy weather and the first awakening of spring. Daffodils, crocuses, and tulips all begin to emerge in Maryland. Naturally, one begins to enjoy the outdoors and warmer weather once again. The best way to enjoy the coming spring is to care for the landscape. If you need residential landscaping services in Maryland, Michael Bryan Landscapes is here for you! Below are a few March landscaping tips to get you started on the right track.

Preemergent Herbicides

Early March is the time just before weeds grow from their seeds. Every year, weeds sprinkle their tiny seeds in the ground to sprout the next year. Before you know it, your yard could be covered with weeds! One of the best ways to remove them is to stop them in their tracks with a preemergent herbicide. This type of herbicide targets seeds and keeps them from sprouting. You won’t have any leafy weeds to spray or pull!

Last Chance Pruning

March is also the last month before shrubs and trees take off with a new growth spurt. One should avoid pruning the plants during their growing season, as the cuts could cause them to grow more aggressively. Now is a great time to conduct some healthy shrub and tree pruning.

Clean the Garden Tools

If you haven’t sanitized and maintained the garden tools yet, now is a great time to do so right before you get to the garden. Cleaning your tools in general is important for keeping them in good condition, while sanitizing them with isopropyl alcohol keeps them free of diseases. Of course, Michael Bryan Landscapes can also take on the dirty work for you!

Mulch the Beds

Another top March landscaping tip is to mulch the garden beds. Mulching will keep pesky weeds away and give nutrition to your flowers, shrubs, grasses, and trees. The mulch layer should be at least three inches thick; otherwise, it will fail to keep out the weeds and prove more detrimental than beneficial.

Plant Trees, Shrubs, & Plants

Spring is a great season for establishing new trees, shrubs, and plants in the ground. The sun is not too harsh and the ground is cool and moist, ideal conditions for a newly-planted specimen. If you are ready to do your spring landscape maintenance, contact Michael Bryan Landscapes!
