Most Popular Fencing Materials
A fence’s material plays into its purpose and look. Which would be best for your home?

Fences come in all different colors and styles and can have various purposes as well. Some promote privacy, while others protect homeowners and their families with extra strength. Fences complete a property with both security and beauty. Even so, one material might go better with your home than another. Below is a look at some of the most popular fencing materials on the market.

Wood Fencing

Wood fencing remains a trusty material for homes across the country. There’s nothing like the natural smell and touch of wood. Manufacturers use some types of wood more often, such as cedar and cypress with their termite and rot-resistant resins, and pressure-treated pine, a highly durable wood. Other kinds include teak, bamboo, and redwood.

Vinyl Fencing

Vinyl fencing is another top choice. Manufacturers have developed it over the years so that it has become more durable and more flexible in coloration and design. Vinyl can conform to any style of fence one could imagine and can come in a color that will suit your property best. Although it is more expensive than wood, vinyl only needs an annual wash with a mild detergent to keep it fresh.

Composite Fencing

Composite fencing is engineered wood, a combination of wood fibers and manmade binder. Like vinyl and wood, the possibilities are endless when it comes to fence design. Composite also comes in a vast array of colors and more closely resembles the look of wood than vinyl does. All one needs is hose water to keep it clean.

Aluminum Fencing

The alternative to wrought-iron, aluminum is the lightweight, more affordable, and durable option for homeowners looking for classic beauty and hardcore strength. Aluminum will not rust like iron might and comes in a range of styles and colors. This material will not offer privacy, but it arguably gives the most security to a home.

Chain-Link Fencing

While not the prettiest of the bunch, chain-link fencing is highly affordable and may even rival aluminum in durability. Its wire mesh does not give privacy, but it can be useful in training decorative or fruiting vines. Popular for suburban yards and rural properties, chain-link fencing is humble yet mighty.
